Studio Vasström designed a shop interior for retailer Liisa Koski 1917, who opened their second delicacy store in October 2024. The company has been in business for a century, and the brand identity is strongly connected to their heritage and flagship store, echoing the long traditions of the company. The challenge was to maintain the feel of the brand - with authenticity and tradition as key words - when translated into a modern shopping mall.
A playful nod towards a turn-of-the-century shop was achieved by mounting a storefront with panelling. Tiling, fittings and props were selected, to echo the organic mix of time periods, found in a shop with daily activity over decades. The hero of the space, the counter in solid wood, dates back to 1930, and was rescued from the lobby of a prestigious hotel in the region. In a gently remodeled version, it brings old world charm and sturdyness to the modern, polished, commercial setting.
